The Internet took off May 3, 2024, when two famous rappers, Kendrick Lamar and Drake, aired out their beef to a new level. The two stars have had issues with each other in the past, but these past few weeks have given the media plenty of new drama to discuss.
What really took the internet by storm was when Drake dropped his nearly eight-minute music video on May 3, 2024, dissing Lamar and stating that he was allegedly abusing and cheating on his wife. The very next day Lamar responded with “Meet the Grahams” in which he addresses Drake’s son by saying, “I’m sorry that man is your father.” He also addresses Drake’s parents and alleges that Drake has a secret daughter. Before Drake even had the chance to respond, Lamar dropped another track called “Not Like Us.” This one continued to rip the rapper apart and added to the pile of claims by suggesting Drake “likes ’em young.”
On May 5, 2024, Drake fought back against the allegations by dropping “The Heart Pt. 6” and refuting the claims Lamar made. In this track he also manages to get some blows on his rival by adding, “You know, at least your fans are getting some raps out of you / I’m happy I could motivate you.” But despite this, the damage seemed to be done because Lamar’s “Not Like Us” hit number 1 on the “Hot 100” billboard.
Since things have died down a bit, students as St. Louis High School have started forming their own opinions of the situation. Senior Lexie Thayer said, “My opinion is that the media is focusing on silly things like the drama only because everyone wants to avoid the real problems in the world and in America.” Other students have a much different view of the situation like Senior Devante Nava, who said, “I think it’s hilarious. Drake is done for. I don’t really think he can come back from being called out in the way he did. Besides, everyone is dog-piling on him like no tomorrow. I’m just waiting to see what he does to try and get back public favor.”
Drake seems to have lost a lot of support from the public after this event, and most people are still waiting for another big part of this story to drop. Is he hiding away in shame? Or is he cooking up an even better diss than the hit, “Not Like Us.”
