St. Louis High School Senior Curtis Brashaw was just named one of the 625 semifinalists for the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, which was selected from a pool of over 6,000 competing students across the country.
The U.S. Presidential Scholar Program was established in 1964 by the order of the president to recognize some of the nation’s most accomplished graduating seniors. Up to 161 students can be named U.S. Presidential Scholars each year.
Brashaw has done many things during his time at SLHS, like when in his junior year, he broke the school record for the highest SAT score. He is also the founder of GSA and Rotary Interact, and an active participant in events both inside and outside of school. Brashaw also participated in Business Professionals of America and took home first place in Human Resource Management at the state level, as well as served as the Vice President of Communication for Michigan BPA. Brashaw said, “I’m very honored to be considered for this award. When I found out I was one of the few nominated I was stunned, and now to find out that I’m a semifinalist, I’m very excited.”
Brashaw plans on attending the University of Notre Dame after he graduates from SLHS, with a focus on International Economics. He is very proud to be graduating from SLHS this May, and said,“I am proud of my growth in leadership, parliamentary procedure, Microsoft suite proficiency, and public speaking skills throughout my high school career. All of these skills have been developed in one way or another through opportunities that St. Louis has offered me. I am also proud of all of those around me who have done the same, and it has been my pleasure to be involved with others’ growth.”
The finalists for the honor will be announced in mid-May by the U.S. Department of Education. Until then, Brashaw will continue his work in supporting the everyday life of SLHS staff and students.
