In a couple of days, the most magical event in many high schoolers’ careers will make its grand debut: prom! This year’s prom, planned by the junior class of 2025, will take place at the Youth For Christ ballroom Saturday, April 20, 2024. The theme will be Starry Night, and many students are excited. However, with that excitement comes anxiety from first-time prom attendees. “Do I need a date?” “What should I wear?” “Should I bring anything extra?” Luckily, the prom veterans of the senior class have some tips.
The big thing about prom is: dates. Should you bring a date to prom? “Do go with a group, dates can be fun but things are usually much less stressful when you are in a group,” shared teacher Andrea Biehl. She added, “Don’t be afraid to ask someone to dance, you won’t regret it!”
When it comes to fashion, the students (and staff) of St. Louis High School know what’s up. Staff fashionista Kevin Kuhn declared, “Don’t spend too much on your outfit, whether it be a dress or a suit, because you’ll only wear it once.” On a serious note, he continued with, “It breaks my heart to see families without the resources think that a prom outfit should be the end-all-be-all of their student’s high school experience, and put their resources toward that.” Biehl agreed, saying, “Don’t overspend on your look. It’s dark in there!”
Senior Lexie Thayer, who will be attending prom for the third time this year, considers herself an expert on all things prom. When it comes to the topic of prom looks, Thayer shared, “I recommend wearing something you feel confident and glamorous in, but nothing that will constrict your break dancing.” When it comes to dancing, Thayer has a lot to say. “Dance, even if you’re super nervous.” She added, “Just boogie with it. Nobody’s actually good at dancing, so don’t worry about it and just have fun.”
Honestly, at the end of the day, prom is about enjoying the atmosphere with your friends and having an amazing night. “Just go and have fun,” shared senior Olivia Good. “Enjoy yourself, because when you go to prom, you are getting closer to the end of school. Just live in the moment and dance hard.”
