The St. Louis varsity track and field team had a busy week the week of April 7-12, attending three separate meets scheduled throughout the course of five days. Unfortunately, the Sharks invite was canceled for Friday, April 12.
The first meet of the week was a meet at Ithaca. The team competed fiercely, with the girls winning two out of three duels at the meet. However, the boys did not and ultimately lost all three duels.
Some standout competitors from the girls included senior Jaiden Dickman placing first in the 1,600 meter, senior Natalie Lemert placing first in the 3,200 meter, senior Natalee Hoyt placing first in pole vault, freshman Tess Farkas placing first in shotput and second in discus, and the relay teams placing first in both the 4×100 and 4×200. For the boys, Landon Pestrue placed first in both the 1,600 meter and the 3,200 meter.
“I think I did well in competing with the other teams there,” shared Pestrue. His impressive feat of taking the gold in two different races is notable, and he continued by saying, “I did well but one thing I wish I did better at was the time my one mile.”
For the Wednesday meet, which took place on the home field at SLHS, the girls beat Carrollton, but fell short to the team state champions, Shepherd. The boys were not able to beat Carrollton or Shepherd. Both teams competed well and there were some first place finishers on the day.
Kylie Acker was pretty happy with the overall because she got two seasonal records in shotput and discus. It was her best and she can’t wait to see what happens in the future, “With my new personal record I’m super excited for the upcoming meets.”
Saint Louis Track and Fields next competition is April 17, 2024, in Standish.
