The National Honor Society students took it upon themselves to bring recycling back into St. Louis High School with the help of their advisors.
Lucee Mikek proposed the idea of bringing recycling back and created the committee for NHS members to serve on. The members of the committee include Mikek, Natalie Lemert, Jaiden Dickman, Tori Patterson, Natalee Hoyt, and Dom Girard.
Girard was the one to distribute the recycling bins to all the teachers, and he has been passionate about this project from the moment it was proposed. He stated, “I’m super excited to have our recycling bins back as it will help Saint Louis have an impact in keeping our Earth healthy! I’ve helped organize the committee as well as passing out information about the bins!”
Hoyt is a reputable member of NHS and she is committed to making the school a better place. She stated, “I chose to sign up because I think it’s something that could benefit the school and the environment. It is something that NHS does to make the club more visible in the school.” It should also be mentioned that the people on the committee have more to do than just put the recycling bins in the classroom. She went on to mention, “We have to take the recycling up to Mt. Pleasant to the recycling center, and the people on the committee have a rotation of who does it.”
Recycling is an easy task that has a big impact on the world. According to Recycle Now, recycling helps reduce energy use and carbon emissions. All small improvements lead to bigger change, and because of the members of the recycling committee, SLHS can contribute to that bigger change.
The members of NHS are working hard to change the halls of SLHS for the better, and the new members will be inducted April 9, 2024, where they too will be tasked with making the school a better place.
