With the SAT being just around the corner, the pressure is setting in for the juniors around St. Louis High School.
The SAT is one of the biggest tests high schoolers take because of the value it holds. The scores from the SAT can help with college acceptances, scholarships, and even the top 10. These are important factors in the lives of students, but they certainly don’t determine one’s life trajectory as a whole.
The school record holder at SLHS for the SAT is senior Curtis Brashaw. His score was a reflection of the hours upon hours he put into studying. Brashaw stated, “My best tip is to practice with the practice tests on College Board’s websites. Run through a whole mock SAT and then grade it. Look at what you did wrong, and then learn that stuff. If you do this once or twice, I guarantee that you will be better prepared.” Brashaw also took the time to help his classmates study for the test.
Senior Olivia Good is a student who deeply cares about her academics, and it was certainly the same when she took the SAT just one year ago. She stated, “I think I was pretty well prepared. I didn’t go to all the fancy study groups, but the best tip I could give the juniors this year when it comes to the SAT, is to go in with a clear head. Don’t stress out about it too much, but also don’t just brush it off because certain things consider it.”
Although the SAT went well for Good, there were still a few things that she wished she would have done differently. She mentioned, “One thing I would have done differently is slow down a little bit. During the test, I was always one of the first ones done with the sections. I did pretty well, but if I slowed down I think I could have gotten a better score.”
The SAT and testing can be very stressful, but just know it will all be over in the blink of an eye.
