Notice any significant absences in the hallways Wednesday, March 13? That’s because the senior class held its official senior skip day that day in order to enjoy the nice weather and ring in the start of the senior season!
Every year, the senior class gets together to plan a fun activity for the skip day. This year, the location of Frankenmuth was chosen. With this, it allowed the class to meet up for lunch together and split into smaller groups to shop throughout the day
Senior Lillie Thayer, liked that the groups split up throughout the day. “When the class separated into smaller groups, it was perfect, mostly for convenience purposes,” she stated.
But why that particular day? “I suggested the date to the class because it is the day that we all had to go into quarantine for covid,” stated fellow senior Curtis Brashaw. “It was like an homage to our eighth grade year, and missing out on our middle school graduation.” The date wasn’t just chosen because of nostalgia, though. It had some practicality, as Brashaw explained, “It was also very early on in spring sports, so athletes wouldn’t have to worry about missing any games or extracurriculars.”
Thayer, who went to the skip day with some friends, had a lot of fun. She said, “We walked around downtown, and mostly window shopped. It was really cool!”
There were a lot of fun stories throughout the day. “At the restaurant Lauren and I ate at for breakfast,” shared senior Kylie Acker, “Lauren’s bread was moldy. After that little fiasco, though, we went out and shopped throughout the town.”
“It is definitely a day I will remember when I think of senior year,” shared Brashaw. “A day filled with good memories.”
With the quarter after spring break being all things senior, it was nice for the Class of 2024 to get a chance to relax and have one last day of fun together before graduation paranoia sets in.
