The Sharks’ varsity girls’ basketball team traveled to Beal City High School, March 6, 2024, to play Beal City in the district semifinal where they won 50-44. The Sharks then played Morley-Stanwood Friday, March 8, for the district title and unfortunately lost.
Against the Aggies, the Sharks were trailing by 11 points at the start of the fourth quarter, but went on a run and out scored the Aggies 20-3 in the final quarter to secure the win.
Josie Schrot’s whole basketball career was coming to an end, but she helped her team down the stretch with some clutch free throws. Schrot was in pure shock after the game; she couldn’t believe the team won because before the fourth quarter they were trailing by 11 points. She said, “I was so happy for us, I literally cried.” Schrot has thought about playing basketball in college but she thinks it’s going be too much because she’s already playing golf.
During the game, the team struggled with their mental toughness and their defense, and they needed to work on not letting the amount of points affect how they played. However, once the Sharks stopped letting it affect them, they were able to close the gap and become more confident in themselves.
As a freshman on varsity, Kenadie Henry thought the team made an incredible comeback in the last quarter. Henry said, “I was super proud of the team..” She thinks the team struggled with making layups, and their confidence but once they started gaining confidence they were doing better and it showed.
