Senior Madyson Hartman finished another successful season and took her third and final trip to the Michigan High School Athletic Association Bowling State Final March 2, 2024.
Hartman has made quite an impact on the St. Louis bowling program throughout her four years. From just missing qualification by 12 pins her freshman year to becoming regional champion her senior year, she has been a team pillar for quite some time. Unfortunately, she came just short of an all-state finish, but her success outshines any fault.
Hartman has been first-team all-conference three times, all-region three times, three-time team Most Valuable Player, a part of a conference championship team, and an individual regional champion this year. Being a regional champion is a highly sought-after accomplishment, and she blew out her competition by over 100 pins!
The success that has come her way wasn’t without adversity. She stated, “The season was frustrating at times with a coach change midway through the season. There were highs and lows, but it turned out to be good in the end.” Another thing that got her through her struggles was her passion for the sport. She went on to mention, “Bowling was one of my biggest motivations in high school. Now that it’s done, the senioritis is kicking in.”
Jessica Hartman, the interim varsity bowling coach, had lots to say about her daughter’s success in the program. She mentioned, “Mady had a good season with a lot of mental toughness that she had to work through. She was the highest-average player, and when she had to miss a match, it did contribute to a loss for the team. Mady helped alongside Lilly (Massaway) to carry the team’s scores to some of their best Peterson scores. Mady was co-captain as well.” With parenting being a top priority for Coach Hartman she stated, “As a parent, I have watched Mady grow and become a very well-rounded bowler. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow and succeed.”
Hartman doesn’t proclaim her success as just her own but credits the many people who have helped her along the way. She stated, “I appreciate all the support I got from my family and Ithaca coaches. They have all helped me achieve great things this season.”
Although Hartman is done bowling for St. Louis High School, she will continue her athletic and academic career at Montcalm Community College.
