Varsity bowling had a busy weekend as Friday, the teams traveled to Northern Lanes to compete in the MHSAA bowling regional tournament. The boys’ team took 4 place out of 12 teams, and the girls’ team placed 5th out of 12 teams.
On Saturday, the varsity bowlers went back to Northern Lanes for MHSAA Regionals.
Congratulations to senior Madyson Hartman for blowing away all her competition, beating the runner-up finisher by over 100 pins. Hartman qualified for the MHSAA bowling state finals this weekend at the Northway Lanes in Muskegon.
Sophomore and two year bowler, Gracie Lombard, thinks individually she did really well, except for the first game. Lombard said, “Throughout the season I think we improved a lot by the scores.” She also said, “I wish I didn’t get down on myself after the first game, but it helped me improve on the next games.” Lombard’s favorite memory was singing during the meet and then shortly after them getting yelled at by other teams’ coaches for singing. Now looking back at that memory she finds it super funny.
Fellow sophomore Olivia Lane finished the day off with 23rd place. Throughout the season, Lane learned so many things that helped her prepare and perform for the MHSAA regionals. Lane thinks she did really well, she bowled above average all day on Saturday. Lane said, “My favorite memory this season was playing card games before we competed at regionals.” The only thing she wishes was better throughout the season was how the season started as it was rough for everyone. However, the ups and downs this season will be the times Lane will forever remember.
Freshman Merick Bartlett said, “We improved as a team and everyone held their own until the last game.” On Saturday for individuals Bartlett didn’t do his best, after the two games he was holding his own in ninth place, but it wasn’t enough to qualify for state. The lone bowler to advance was Hartman, who will compete the weekend of Mar. 1-2.
