National FFA Week hit the halls of St. Louis High School and is being celebrated from Feb. 17-24 this year.
This week-long event aims to show appreciation to students, alumni, advisors, and everyone who supports the FFA. Mrs. Degroft, the advisor of the FFA, is particularly passionate about serving the supporters. The teachers at SLHS show their support to the FFA by helping students academically, purchasing goods from fundraisers, and so much more. Degroft remarked, “We gave the teacher gifts because Wednesday was National Teacher and Advisor Day. I wanted to extend that to all teachers, not just advisors, and it just makes everyone’s day!”
The supporters and advisors help keep the program in line, but the members are what makes the program go round. Senior Madyson Hartman stated, “I have been in FFA since my freshman year. It has allowed me to experience many different opportunities that have helped me grow as a person. I like celebrating National FFA Week because it is a time when everyone shows their support to the agriculture community.” Hartman has been a prestigious member of the FFA, and she plans to take her agriculture education to college as she will pursue a degree in animal science.
Not only is this week a time to support the FFA, but it is also an opportunity to support a local organization. Degroft wanted to spread kindness during the week by creating a fundraiser for Dalis to the Rescue. Students can bring in animal supplies until March 3, 2024, to be entered into a drawing for $15 gift cards. She stated, “I tried to find a local business that was focused on animals since FFA and agriculture education are involved with animals.” Mrs. Degroft would like to continue the gifts and fundraisers as a tradition while adding even more fun activities throughout the years.
Be sure to drop a few items off for the Dalis to the Rescue fundraiser and show appreciation to the members and advisors of the FFA to show support for all the hard work they put in during the year.
