School spirit has officially been revived at St. Louis High School thanks to Mrs. Kaiser and Mrs. Reeves!
SLHS recently held a Valentine’s day assembly during fourth hour Feb. 9. This assembly brought lots of spirit to the table at SLHS, getting students the most excited they have been for years. At this assembly, there was a school-wide, nonstop relay between the grades. Prior to the assembly, each and every student was assigned a group within his or her grade that designated which game they would be playing against the teams of the other grades.
At the assembly, there were nine games which were to be completed in chronological order. Once the first game was complete, puzzle pieces were handed out and given to the students in group 10. This process then repeated until group 9 was finished and acquired the final puzzle pieces. Then, the group 10 members complete the puzzle to reveal the message which led them to their grades flag. The grade that returned to the gymnasium first was declared the winner. The winner of this assembly was the sophomore class of 2026!
This action-packed relay got the students of SLHS up and out of their seats and cheering for their classmates. The competition was close and intense, which showcased students’ school spirit and just how competitive the students will be. Olesya Mullins and member of the winning sophomore team had a blast at the assembly. In fact, she said, “It was really fun. This assembly got everyone moving; there was no pause.” Mullins was a member of group nine, which performed the donut game. In this game, players were tasked with eating a donut. Sounds easy, right? There’s a catch. The donuts were attached to a string which was held up high. The players had to eat the donut without using their hands as fast as they could.
The credit for this assembly goes to teachers Kaiser and Reeves, as well as the senior class. They put lots of work into not only the assembly, and it was a huge hit among students. They were also hard at work organizing other Valentine’s Day festivities such as the daily bingo quote and daily Valentine trivia. In fact, Mrs. Kaiser said, “Mrs. Reeves and I wanted to bring some spirit to brighten up the winter months and school morale. We came up with the idea to do events in February. I started Googling ideas, and started saving them to a Google doc.” Kaiser also explained that those ideas were then discussed with a committee of seniors. It is clear that this hard work paid off and improved the spirits of SLHS students overall.
