The St. Louis co-ed cheer team took on the task of selling roses and carnations for Valentine’s Day.
With flowers being an essential part of Valentine’s Day, the cheer team made an executive decision to do a fundraiser with them. This is their second consecutive year doing the sale, and they have found great success. Senior Jaycee Best stated, “The cheer team was selling flowers for Valentine’s Day to raise money for some cheer clinics. The fundraiser was a hit! We sold a whopping 45 roses and 26 carnations, and we are looking forward to doing it in the future.” Best distributed the flowers during the Valentine’s Day assembly that took place during fourth hour, Feb. 9, 2024.
These flowers could be sent to significant others or friends who were students at St. Louis High School. One student who received flowers from their significant other was senior Rowan Harris. Harris was taking photos at the jazz festival, so she wasn’t at school when they were delivered during the assembly. She couldn’t wait to receive them, however, there was a small mix-up with the labels and she received a rose. She stated, “I was kind of upset because I really wanted carnations, since they are my favorite flower. I was still grateful though because flowers are flowers!”
Besides a few small slip-ups on the distributing front, the cheer team was happy with the result of the sale. This sale is becoming a tradition for the cheerleaders, and they don’t plan to stop this year. Fundraisers help athletes with uniforms, clinics, competition fees, and much more. They are an important part of keeping different extracurricular activities functioning, and people should consider taking part in the sale if they can do so.
Be on the lookout for more fundraisers put together by different organizations and sports teams to help support the students at SLHS!
