Mean Girls officially hit the theaters, Jan. 12 and several St. Louis High School students shared their opinions on the new release.
Originally, Mean Girls was first made in 2004, and later released Mean Girls 2 near 2011. The newest film hit around 84 million dollars worldwide, but it received mixed reviews from critics. Mean Girls was mainly about three girls who go to high school, but one of the girls made a huge mistake falling for the wrong boy.
Many people have their own opinions on if it was good or bad, but one particular student is sophomore Leia Firman. In fact, she stated, “The movie didn’t even get close to my expectations. It was awful. The acting was decent but the singing was horrible. Like seriously if you’re going to get someone to sing, then hire someone who knows how. I wish they would have just stuck to the original instead of changing it as much as they did. The original was way better, like nothing tops the original. They shouldn’t have remade it in the first place.”
Another opinion on the film was Gracie Lombard. According to Lombard, “I guess it didn’t live up to my expectations because I expected it to be really bad. I heard a lot of bad things about it, but I actually loved it. I have watched the original, and I don’t know which one is better to be honest. I really enjoy musicals, so maybe I would lean toward the new film. No hate towards the old one though. I love it. I think the new film is great just the way it is and doesn’t need to be changed really.”
Many people around the world shared their opinion on this movie across many platforms, like TikTok and Instagram. Mean Girls will continue to hit movie theaters across the globe with many different expectations and opinions.
