Both the varsity and junior varsity bowling teams had matches Saturday, Feb. 3, and the JV teams came away successfully, but the varsity teams unfortunately fell short.
The JV teams had their first set of Saturday matches that day at the Pins bowling alley in Ithaca. The JV A team played their first match against Ithaca co-ed, and JV B had their first match against Bullock Creek. Both teams played a ‘bye’ match following the first set. These teams both came away victorious. Outstanding performances of the day include Merrick Bartlett bowling a 220, 187, 170, and 175, Skylar DuBois-Kleinhans bowled a 160, Hayden Mader bowled a 149, and Elliot Turner bowled a 154.
The JV bowling season is soon coming to an end, but this does not mean the bowlers won’t enjoy what’s left! In fact, DuBois-Kleinhans said, “I think both of the coed teams did great. JV A is doing amazing. We are still undefeated. My first game I didn’t do that great, but not that bad.”
On the other hand, the varsity teams also had a set of matches that day, which took place at Crooked Creek. Both the boys and the girls faced off first against Ithaca, and then followed with a match against Standish Sterling. Unfortunately, both the boys and girls fell short to the opposing teams. Even though they lost, the girls team bowled outstanding games against Standish-Sterling with two 600 series games. High performances of the day included Madyson Hartman bowling a 164 and a 184, Lilly Massaway bowled a 157, and Gracie Lombard bowled a 152. Thailan Raby also had a great day and bowled a 207 for the guys.
Second year bowler Olivia Lane had some thoughts to share. She said, “I personally did not do very good. But as a team, I thought we did pretty good.” Lane also stated that the team will be working on bakers at practice to improve their scores at matches.
The JV teams will attend a singles tournament at Riverwood lanes in Mt. Pleasant Feb. 6, and will also have a makeup match at St. Charles Feb. 8. The varsity teams will also be back in action in Standish Feb. 10.
