The Sharks’ wrestling team traveled to Millington for a make-up meet Jan. 21, and the Sharks wrestled Millington and Carrolton. The team went 2-0 beating Carrollton 84-0 and Millington 57-17 which increased their record to 22-2.
Sharks going undefended were Olesya Mullins, Owen Fogel, Alex Rodriguez, Colin Kuhn, Laythan Haworth, Martine Wiggins, Drew Challender, Udter Tweh, and Ramon Anguiano.
Tweh wished he would have gotten a better warm up before his match. Tweh said, “I wish I warmed up better, and drilled the moves we worked on.” He still needs to work on offensive shots and scoring with them also. However, he is super excited for the post season and he can’t wait.
Later that week, Feb. 3, the girls’ wrestling team traveled to Midland for the last regular tournament of the season. The team ended with three placers which included Olesya Mullins, Maira Soto, and KC Beard.
That same day the boys’ team traveled to Alma to compete in the TVC Conference. The boys team ended with five champs. The first place finishes were Fogel, Kuhn, Rodriguez, Wiggins, and Challender.
Rodriguez thinks he wrestled well but even though he won TVC he still wished he wrestled better. Rodriguez will keep working hard for the upcoming tournaments. He said, “I’m super excited and really grateful for this opportunity to wrestle.”
The Sharks’ wrestling team will keep putting the work in as the post season comes around. The next meet for the team is districts, Wednesday Feb. 7, which is the last meet hosted in the Shark tank this year.
