The girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams took on Michigan Lutheran Seminary at the Shark Tank Feb. 2, 2024.
The girls’ took their second victory against MLS of the season beating them 43-33. Their record has improved to 12-3, which has been possible due to the chemistry on the court. Natalee Hoyt scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Josie Schrot added 14 points to the board. The ladies work well together on and off the court.
A player who isn’t on the court due to an injury is Olivia Good, however, she still shows up for the team. She stated, “I think we did really well defensively. Offensively we did well at keeping the ball moving and not turning the ball over as much. As a team, we forced 22 turnovers on MLS, and it’s just an amazing feeling to know we’re doing so well as a team and working together to be on top of the league. I’m really proud of all of us and how well we worked together.” Additionally, star athlete Hoyt added, “I think that it went pretty well. We should have won by a lot more. Offensively, we struggled a little bit, but defensively we made up for it by forcing turnovers.”
The guys unfortunately suffered a loss against the Cardinals by a score of 27-48. They fought until the end but couldn’t break away for the win.
There are only a few more weeks left of the season for both the girls and guys. They are creeping up on championship territory, and it is only a matter of time before they compete for conference championships and district titles.
The girls were back in action Feb. 5, 2024, at Chippewa Hills High School. The guys have prepped to compete Feb. 6, 2024, at Bullock Creek High School where the game will begin at 5:30 P.M.
