Alex Newton enlists in the National Guard

Alex Newton got enlisted in the National Guard at the Meps Section in Lansing on Thursday, Feb 21 to sign up for the oath to defend our country. Newton stated that he will be leaving for basic training on June 10 of this year. He stated that he will be gone for ten weeks on basic training.

“My interest in the National Guard didn’t start until two years ago. I enlisted because it will help my future not only in active duty but later on in life also. Enlisting in the National Guard means to me that I am serving not only my country but the people in it also.” He further stated, “As of right now, I am to go to weekend drill and basic trading after the school year ends. I am confident that I will be able to balance the National Guard and school because drill is on every other weekend so I will still be able to go to school.”

Newton’s career in the National Guard consists of the positions of carpentry and masonry, which is called the 12 whiskey position. To conclude, Alex will soon start his journey to defend our country.
