The St. Louis junior varsity bowling team went to Northern Lanes in Sanford, Jan. 30, at exactly 4:00 P.M. with JV “A” and JV “B” competing against each other. At the end of the match, JV “A” took the victory home with a score of 17 to 13.
First-year bowler Leia Firman had an individual score of 72 with a good performance. She stated, “I didn’t do that well myself, but I did get close to my personal record. The bad thing about what happened was I was anxious because of how big and loud the Northern Lanes is, but I had my friends there to comfort me. I really love bowling and I never thought I’d want to pursue this.” Firman also continued, “I think what we struggle the most with bowling is team communication and some of our throws we do. Overall, I think we did amazing and I can’t believe JV A is still undefeated.”
Another first-year bowler is Elliot Turner, with scores of 102 and 139. According to her, “I did really well and I finally got a chance to beat my personal record again! My previous record was 138 so I went up one point! There weren’t many bad things that happened besides people getting annoyed by their scores but that’s fair. The whole thing was a good experience and really fun.” Turner also talked about what flaws there were. “I would say that you have to remember every bowling alley oils their lanes differently so it’s important to make sure your ball is clean every few throws,” she added.
The bowling team may have some flaws but JV “A” is still undefeated and JV “B” is also doing great. Both teams will have another game but instead of one match, they’ll play two matches. JV “A” is going against Ithaca co-ed and later picking up a bye, and then JV “B” is playing against Bullock Creek and also picking up a bye.
