The Saint Louis Sharks’ wrestling team traveled to Valley Luthern and wrestled against Valley Lutheran and Standish. The Sharks went 2-0, with the final score against Valley Luthern 78-3 and the final score against Standish 77-6.
Later that week, the girls’ wrestling had a Friday invitational in Ovid-Elsie and the girls wrestled well. They had three placers, and the team placed third overall out of 39 teams. Olesya Mullins took first, Tekhoa Henry was second, and KC Beard was third.
Henry thought she did really well but she feels like she needs to work on getting out on bottom, and she also thinks she needs to work on neutral. Henry said, “I will work hard for the upcoming tournaments.” The girls wrestling is back in action Feb. 3, in Midland.
On Saturday, the boys traveled to either Shepherd or Leslie. In Shepherd, Alex Rodriguez took home first place for the Sharks, while in Leslie, Owen Fogel also took home the gold.
Sophomore Owen Fogel placed first at the Leslie tournament, with a 3-0 win in the finals extending his record to 35-2.
Junior Justin Rodriguez thought he did okay but wished he wrestled better his first match. Rodriguez said, “I could have beat that first kid because I knew I could have, but I will keep working hard for the upcoming season.” Even though Rodriguez didn’t place where he wanted he still finished the day off with a win, and finished with fifth place.
Fogel thought he did really well. Fogel said, “I am super excited to wrestle in the upcoming tournaments and I will keep working hard for the postseason.”
The wrestling team will wrestle Millington and Carrollton Jan. 31, and then will wrestle the TVC invitationals Saturday, Feb 3.
