The St. Louis Wrestling team hosted Carson City and Chesaning at home for a dual meet Wednesday, Dec. 13. The Sharks were able to come out on top with two blowout victories against their opposing teams with a final score of 75-6 against Carson City, and a final score of 75-3 against Chesaning. Exceptional performances were had by the entire roster for the Sharks. Senior wrestler and team captain Ramon Anguiano shared, “Although the scores were lopsided, it was a battle with both teams. I’m proud that everyone fought hard, did their jobs, and did not give up any pins.”
The Sharks wrestling team have had a strong opening to their season this year after coming out on top against Pine River and Hart in their first meet, as well as placing third in the individual Howell tournament that took place Saturday, Dec. 9.
Anguiano went in depth about how the Sharks plan to continue their streak of domination with, “We just plan on treating every day like a normal day. Just getting better and better by working harder and harder. We have a mentality that we will not be satisfied until we have that state title in our hands.”
Fellow wrestling team captain, junior Colin Kuhn added to Anguianio’s last statement with, “We really want to focus on improvement through victory. We just really want to focus on getting bonus points with our hammers and not giving pins up anywhere else.” Kuhn then elaborated on the team’s growth with, “The team has improved a lot since the first meet in Pine River; we’re able to stay more solid on our feet and we’re not giving up on pin opportunities when we had our opponents on their backs.”
The St. Louis Sharks have always been known as a team that seems to sometimes have the odds stacked against them yet still comes out on top time and time again. However this season is different, different because now many are used to seeing the Shark logo right next to “#1”. Coach Kuhn plans to keep it that way until the state championship trophy is sitting in the trophy case at St. Louis High School.
Students can watch the Shark wrestlers continue to make dreams into reality Thursday, Dec. 21 in Freeland for a team dual tournament.
