The Sharks junior varsity and varsity bowling teams competed in separate locations the morning of Saturday, Dec. 9. The JV team bowled against Breckenridge and Ithaca at Riverwood Resort in Mt. Pleasant, and the varsity team bowled against Bullock Creek and Carrollton at PINS in Ithaca. The day ended with the JV team taking wins against both Breckenridge and Ithaca, and both the girls’ and boys’ varsity team lost to Bullock Creek, but ended up beating Carrollton.
Junior varsity bowler Hayden Mader shared, “The match was slow at parts, but it got intense at other parts.” Elaborating more on his performance at the match, Mader said, “I think I did iffy, but the team did well overall.”
Fellow JV bowler and sophomore Leia Firman stated, “I broke my PR twice, and it was the second game we had won, so I felt amazing.” Aside from just scoring well, though, a lot of first year bowlers are excited about the rest of the season. “I feel like this is a lot of fun,” said Firman. “I’m learning a lot more about bowling and getting better at it slowly.”
On the varsity side of things, senior bowler Lilly Massaway thought her performance on Saturday was pretty good. “That was probably the best I’ve ever bowled,” shared Massaway. As for the team, it looks like varsity is off to a strong start on the season. Massaway elaborated, “We are doing quite alright.”
Saturday was the first varsity match of the season, and the bowlers were ready to go. As a JV bowler, Firman agrees, “Bowling is a mental thing, and if you get in your head, it can really hurt you in the long run.”
With all this in mind, it’s clear that the bowling teams are due for a good season this year. JV bowling will bowl again at Northern Lanes Tuesday, Dec. 12, and varsity bowling will have its next match at Crooked Creek Saturday, Dec. 16.
