There are so many things to be excited about with the end of the year approaching. Some students are excited about various sports seasons, winter break, or the many holidays approaching. One thing a lot of students are voicing their excitement about, though, is Spotify’s end-of-the-year project: Spotify Wrapped.
Spotify Wrapped started in 2013, but was first called “Year in Review.” That changed in 2016 and became known as the iconic Spotify Wrapped. Spotify Wrapped collects user data, and presents it in a story-style arrangement for users to look through.
Some of the data collected includes most listened to artists, most listened to song, and time spent listening to music. Spotify also likes to add fun features such as the genre sandwich, which shows how users top genres stacked up. Additionally, listening style is addressed, which includes a baseball-card style graphic and description of how the music tastes of users were reflected.
“Spotify Wrapped is the reason I use Spotify,” shared senior Myah Pitcher. Pitcher loves listening to music, and with Spotify’s features, it gives all the more reason to use the app.
Aside from the cool features of the app, Spotify Wrapped also has some pretty cool features. Pitcher continued, “I think it’s really fun to look through. It’s very similar every year, just with different visuals, but it’s still fun to look through.”
Spotify is a highlight for many students, especially fellow senior Claire Hubble. “Spotify Wrapped is my favorite time of year,” said Hubble. “It’s honestly better than Christmas.”
Hubble is an avid listener of Spotify, as she listened for 128,587 minutes this year! Those statistics even out to almost a quarter of the year spent listening to music. “It didn’t beat last year, though,” explained the senior. “That was over 200,000 minutes spent listening.”
With Spotify Wrapped dropping, and students peeking through their year in review, it adds to the excitement around the winter season!
