A variety of teachers are unique and capable of helping students grasp knowledge to use in their life, but have you ever thought about what a special education teacher does for a whole school day?
A special education teacher’s job is to help certain students who have disabilities in any class. The spotlight of this article is Mrs. Synder, who discusses the special education details. According to Mrs. Snyder, “Working in Special Education means more than ‘just’ a special education teacher. We are experts in our field, having to know the state and federal laws around special education and IEPs, Individualized Educational Plans.” She then explained the development is geared toward general education teachers. “Many of us are left to find training in our own personal field on our own time.” Even though Mrs. Synder is helping her students, she has to learn about every core subject there is to fully help her students.
Furthermore, Snyder explained in depth about how she operates the classroom, stating, “I reteach core content to help them understand their materials, study methods, organizing skills, self advocacy skills with self kindness and acceptance with love.” While operating a classroom, Mrs. Synder believed that they all matter and that they can become something important in society. Though one main question remains for her, why did she choose to work with students with disabilities? She said, “They are often given up by society, told that they can’t do certain things, and they deserves someone with them fighting for them and believing in them”
Teaching students is a way to experience something new, teaching them knowledge to use in their everyday life. A person that has disabilities doesn’t stop what they can do. “Audrey Hepburn always said, ‘Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m possible,’” stated Mrs. Snyder.
