St. Louis High School takes great pride in the accomplishment(s) of its athletes, especially when those accomplishments take the athletes further in life. These athletes put their blood, sweat, and tears into their sports day after day for years. They hope that someday a college will notice their hard work and invite them to a higher level of competition by joining the collegiate team. Unfortunately, that dream does not come true for the majority of high school athletes. That is, unless you are in the upper echelon of your sport, which is exactly the case for seniors Jaiden Dickman and Josie Schrot.
Dickman has had an exceptional multi-sport career during her time at SLHS. This includes running cross country, playing basketball, and running track and field. Some of her more notable accomplishments during her time include being a part of a state runner-up 4×8 team her freshman year, placing 5th in the 4×8 and third in the 4×4 her sophomore year for track state, as well as being All-Regional for all four years in cross country. Dickman commented on her accomplishments with, “I am most proud of the track state meets my sophomore and freshman year, because I got to be on two really good relay teams, I am also very proud of being All-Regional all four years in cross country.”.
All of Dickman’s hard work in her sports has earned her an offer from the prestigious Division II college; Saginaw Valley State University for girls’ cross country and girls’ track and field. Of course, she was glad to accept the SVSU offer, and officially signed Friday, Nov. 17. Dickman shared her thoughts on the signing with, “I am very excited to have made it to the next level in running and very thankful for everyone who has helped me to get to this point. I can’t wait to run at SVSU in the upcoming years. Dickman’s XC and Track coach, Jay PuffPaff added, “It is always special to watch an athlete’s hard work and dedication to a sport pay off. She is extremely deserving of the honor as she has dedicated so much to running and making this dream come true. Jaiden embodies everything that the strong hearts and fast feet philosophy is about. The character, courage, and connections that she showcases is unmatched and left a tremendous impact on our program.”
On the other hand, Schrot has verbally committed to Davenport University for Golf. Schrot has also had an exceptional multi-sport career during her time at SLHS. This includes participating in golf, volleyball, and basketball. Looking back at her time as a student athlete for SLHS, Schrot is most proud of being TVC conference champ for three consecutive years, as well as the accomplishments of her teammates. She specifically said, “I’m proud of our team and what we have accomplished the past four years. I wouldn’t have been as successful without the support of my teammates.” Schrot has fought long and hard to get where she is today, and looking back on all her struggles she said, “I never would have expected I would be getting this kind of offer. Knowing I have made it this far in my golfing career makes me feel like I could make it a lot farther if I just keep chipping away at it.” But without a guiding hand, Schrot wouldn’t have been able to overcome those challenges, this guiding hand came from none other than her coach; Andrea Biehl shared that, “I am very proud of Josie and the work that she has put into golf over the past four years. I love knowing that she will continue her golf career in college and I am excited to go and watch her play at the next level.”
St. Louis High School loves to celebrate the accomplishments of its student athletes both in and outside of the sport.
