Anyone wonder what was going on at 7-Eleven with all the 50 percent off items and rumors of 7-Eleven closing down?
Well, it’s true, St. Louis 7-Eleven closed down after 57 years of serving customers and being the local gas station in St. Louis. The first store was originally founded in 1927 by John Jefferson Green in Dallas, Texas. At first, he sold eggs, milk, and bread as his starting components, but then he started using other food and drinks. It was called the 24/7 store, because it was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and spread across the United States, eventually placing a store in St. Louis.
A favorite for customers was the slurpee drink that was a big hit. In the 2000s, after its 75th birthday, 7/11 offered free slurpees on July 11, to honor the store name, “7-11”. Many St. Louis High School students and teachers have mixed feelings about the store situation. Junior Kaydence Heiden stated, “I believe that they shouldn’t shut down because it was the go-to spot for high schoolers and they have to go somewhere else in town to get food or drinks. I think the store did need remodeling since some things could have been fixed but it could’ve waited for some other time, not near school time.”
While students have their own opinions, staff members do as well. Mrs. Snyder, a special education teacher, said, “I didn’t think they needed to shut down because I usually get my slurpees from 7-Eleven. One of the students, Kaydence Heiden, will always get my slurpees. I believe it should have been remodeled because for one, it wasn’t an American with Disabilities Act appropriate for the gas station, and two, the store was really outdated.”
While it’s an inconvenience for staff and students, the store is being temporarily closed for remodeling and will reopen under another name.
