Jewelry is exquisite, precious metals and jewels for people to wear to show beauty or add to one’s fashion. Many people make jewelry for people to buy, but did you know that there are students here at St. Louis High School that also make jewelry?
Some of the students include sophomore Olivia Keller, who talks about her skills in jewelry making. She discussed her process by stating, “If it’s a tie bracelet, I use embroidery floss in multiple colors. Though if I’m making more sturdy jewelry, like earrings, I just use pop tabs, tiny metal rings to connect things and sometimes pieces of chain, but my main concern is how it all will stay together in the making and result. I taught myself how to make jewelry, but my grandma taught me how to braid certain things for jewelry, like for bracelets.”
Another jewelry maker at SLHS is freshman Cora Zsigray, and she talks about her skills in jewelry making, by saying, “Most of my jewelry I make has different kinds of metals, and I use some pliers to make the jewelry. Some glue can help with the whole thing, but all of these are handmade. I also used string with regular metal, but one metal ring is for earrings, and I also use keychains for decoration on bracelets. My main concern is the amount of money we are receiving. Most of the stuff used is expensive, but just selling jewelry is my main concern. When I learned how to make jewelry, I just learned how to make it myself, but some of the other techniques I learned from my mom. ”
Many students have lots of talents such as playing an instrument, drawing, or dancing. Jewelry making is just one unique hobby the Shark Scene chose to focus on the week. Stay tuned for more SLHS student talents to be focused on.
