The Career Fair is coming to St. Louis High School Nov. 9. This year’s theme is “Creating Connections”, which focuses on building relationships between colleges, careers, and community. All SLHS students will get the opportunity to attend this event during the school day from 8 A.M. until around noon.
The Career Fair is an event that allows students to explore their future career and college options that they may not have even been aware of. There are lots of opportunities that allow students to connect with local colleges and businesses by getting to talk one-on-one with representatives from different places. There will also be members of different branches of the Armed Services here that will be open for anyone to talk with. This year also features a new panel of community members, who will talk with the students about different careers that focus on serving others, such as police officers and non-profit organizations.
Putting this event together was a large task made possible by the hard work of the St. Louis staff and students. One of the event planners, Mrs. Reeves said, “Behind the scenes, the career fair is a beast to put together. Some decisions about the Career Fair were made at the end of last school year, and planning has been happening since the first day of school. It takes hours of work and hundreds of emails to connect with everyone who plans to attend. Even students have been helping out with the planning and preparation. It takes a village to pull this off, but it is worth it when our students have so many great experiences and opportunities that day.”
She also added, “It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to make the career fair happen. Mrs. Biehl, Mr. Kuhn, Mr. Maxwell, and Mr. Oswald have been working diligently to pull so many parts of this together. The day of the Career Fair, all the teachers, administrators, and our BPA Officer Team will play an important role in helping everything run smoothly.”
Mrs. Biehl added, “The Career Fair will give students an opportunity to explore different options that are available to them. There are so many career options out there that students don’t know anything about! Thursday will give them a chance to learn about some of them.”
Students are encouraged to dress business casual for the event and prepare their best handshake, a tip that will make sure good impressions are left on the visiting organizations.
