Stanley Cups, and not the National Hockey Trophy, are a new craze in the halls of St. Louis High School, and students can’t seem to get enough of them.
Stanleys come in many different colors, shapes, and sizes, with the most popular being the Stanley Quencher H2. According to Insider, the market for water bottles is supposed to skyrocket to $12 billion by 2028, which would be $3 billion more than what it’s currently at. Also, an average reusable water bottle costs between $10-$20, so it brings up the question: Why are people spending almost double the amount on Stanleys?
Freshman Paige Luneack has the hot pink Stanley water bottle that she swears by. She stated, “I love my Stanley, but the one with the straw spills a lot, which I don’t like, so I use my handle one the most. [However,] I’m very happy with my purchase. I would love to add the purple handle one to my collection because I love the color purple.” Additionally, fellow Stanley enthusiast Emma Seleski remarked, “They are easy to carry around and keep your water cold. It has helped me so much to stay hydrated. Right now I have the regular tumbler Stanley, but I want to purchase the flip straw tumbler.”
As the Christmas season approaches, Stanley purchases are on the rise. It is clear that there are many positive opinions about them, so it is safe to say that SLHS will be seeing more of these cups among students.
However, the popular gift will not be on senior Lauren Gager’s wish list as she stated, “I don’t understand why they are so popular, and they are way too expensive. There are good water bottles for a way better price. I prefer my trusty blue water bottle from Target. I have had it for a while, and it works great.”
Although they’re pricey, many people are willing to put in the extra money to get the prestigious cup. Yet, is this worth adding to the holiday gift list?
