The St. Louis High School marching band recently did a performance tour of the elementary and middle schools in St. Louis Monday, Oct. 23.
The marching band performed at the T.S.N. middle school, as well as both Carrie Knause and Nikkari elementary schools that day. The songs they performed were “Call Me,” “Centerfold,” “Tainted Love,” and “I Love Rock n’ Roll” as part of their “Totally 80’s” show. Sophomore Skylar DuBois-Kleinhans was one of these performers. In fact, he said, “Out of our four songs, ‘Call Me’ was my favorite one to do. My favorite part was getting to see all of the teachers I haven’t seen in a while and some of the 8th graders.” DuBois-Kleinhans also wanted to share his favorite band memory, which was the water gun fight at band camp.
Rowan Harris is a passionate and hard-working member of the marching band as well. She has been a participant in the marching band for four years now, and has enjoyed this season. Harris said, “[My favorite part was] Definitely doing the drumline’s little dance. Everyone was doing their part and having fun. My bond with the drumline really improved [this season] and this is the best year we have had ever with the marching band.”
Drum Major Hannah Bobzein is also a passionate member of the marching band. She has had a great band experience overall in high school. She said, “My favorite part of performing at the different schools is seeing the amazed faces of the elementary schoolers. My favorite memory from this season was being able to attend the Alma College invitational and seeing the keytar soloist from Alma College.”
Another senior band member, Jaycee Best, has also had a meaningful band experience. She said, “My favorite part was seeing all of the kids smiling as we were playing. My favorite [other] thing is probably band camp and the water gun fights.”
