The last game of the season for the St. Louis football team happened Friday, Oct. 20 home at Wheeler Field. The Sharks faced off against Houghton Lake High School and unfortunately lost with a score of 8-48 to close out the season. The Sharks ended the season with a record of 1-8. There was a tough battle put up against the Bobcats, but the Sharks sadly fell short, but that’s not to say that the Sharks gave up the victory so easily.
Against the Bobcats, there were a number of impressive offensive performances from many members of the team, but the players who stood out on offense were senior Joshua Dew, sophomore Drew Challender, and freshman Karson Tweh. Dew had seven carries over the course of the game, 54 rushing yards during those carries, and also one touchdown. Challender had a 50 percent completed passing rate, as well as 19 passing yards. Last but not least, Tweh had 11 carries during the night, earning 26 total rushing yards, and an average of 2.4 yards per carry.
The St. Louis football team then decided that they were a force to be reckoned with on defense. Viewers in attendance at the game saw exceptional performances from junior Genaro Soto, sophomore Lathan Haworth, and finally sophomore Michael Borie Jr. Soto had a total of four tackles and one crucial fumble recovery. Meanwhile, Haworth and Borie had only five and two tackles respectively.
After the game, many were disappointed with the outcome, but no one was more upset than the players that were out on the field. Haworth shared why he was disappointed in the team’s performance with, “We just had a really hard time being in the right positions we needed to be in.” Haworth’s teammate Dew agreed and said, “It was very difficult to make plays when we had no idea where we were supposed to be or when we were supposed to be there.”
With the season now having been wrapped up and no future football games to look forward to in the 2023-2024 school year, the St. Louis Football team would like to offer their thanks and appreciation to any and everyone who supported them this season.
