The Lady Sharks volleyball team faced the strong Ithaca Yellow Jackets team Oct. 18, however, they unfortunately did not return home with a win.
The varsity team sadly lost in three sets. However, they played hard against their rivals, the Yellowjackets. Senior Kylie Acker had a few thoughts to share about the game. She said, “I don’t think we played bad. We were hustling and hitting the floor. I think we have to be aggressive on the court. We need to take more swings and be active at the net.” Acker also explained she needs to “beat the ball” rather than “meet the ball,”as well as stay on her toes to be ready for the ball.
Another varsity team member, sophomore Olivia Coffin, also felt good about the game. In fact, she said, “I thought we played great last night, we got scared and started to not take any swings, but we eventually got into the game.”
The junior varsity team also competed against Ithaca that night. In fact, freshman player Kylee Riley said, “We won one set. We did really well but we definitely need to work better on our back row and getting the ball up higher so that Saige can set it and we can get a hit.” Riley also said that the team should get more hyped during the matches to boost the energy.
Sophomore Scottlynn Francisco felt pretty good about the game, regardless of the end result. She said, “I think this could’ve been one of the best games the team has played all year. Even though we went home with another loss, everyone who played, played pretty darn good.” Francisco also shared that communication and mindset could be improved on, but they play their best and just need to move on from their mistakes.
The Lady Sharks will be back in action away from home Oct. 25, against Bullock Creek for one of their last matches of the season.
