The St. Louis volleyball team suffered another loss in a home game against Hemlock Wednesday, Oct. 4. Hemlock has been on a hot streak leading up to the game with a record of 10-1, as well as being leaders in the conference. The Sharks put up a valiant battle, but ultimately fell short, with final scores of 15-25 in set one, and 18-25 in set two, and finally another loss 18-25 in the third set.
The Sharks have had a rough season up to this point with a record of 3-15, Senior Lucee Mikek shared her opinion on the season so far, stating, “We may not be the best in our conference, but we play our best.” Senior Kylie Acker, added to that, and said that, “Hemlock played better than us last night, but we’re not satisfied with that ending.” Acker elaborated with “We still have to reach our max potential this season, and seeing as we don’t have a lot of season left, I’m excited to do some hard work.”
The Sharks’ volleyball team had quite the struggle against Hemlock, and student spectator senior Brook Campbell shared why she thought it was such a war, stating, “They (St. Louis) played really good, like they were always close for their sets, but then Hemlock pulled away and beat them everytime.” Campbell agreed with Acker’s previous statement and said, “Hemlock just outplayed them in the end.”
Acker once more explained the inner workings of why the team has had a hard time reaching their full potential this season as compared to years prior and said, “We just have had a hard time communicating when we are on the court, as well as finding the court during crucial moments.” And although the team has habitually struggled with “finding the court” (keeping the ball in play as it passes from one side of the court to the other) as well as communicating the team is working to improve for their next game.
You can see the Sharks’ volleyball team play again in another important game Thursday, Oct. 12, in the St. Louis High School gym against Carrollton.
