St. Louis High School students have had a blast participating in classic Homecoming events- powderpuff and volleybuff!
The annual powderpuff football game took place Oct. 2. For those who don’t know, powderpuff takes place every year on the week of Homecoming, and the football players turn into coaches as they attempt to coach the girls in playing football. The freshmen and seniors took on the sophomores and juniors that night. This exciting game ended in a tie 14-14. Sharks are known to be competitive, so it is no surprise to hear that a few players were upset there was no overtime! One of these players, sophomore Olivia Lane, expressed her thoughts on the subject. She said, “I am very mad they didn’t let us go into overtime. We shouldn’t have ended in a tie. I did love powderpuff though. It was a lot of fun.”
Another proud powderpuff player was senior Claire Hubble. She was very happy with her senior year of powderpuff. She said, “I’m so glad I did it, especially because I was really stressed before the game, but once I started playing, it all went away. My favorite part of the game was when we scored on the sophomore/junior team because of our trick play we practiced.”
On the other hand, the volleybuff game took place Oct. 3! At this game, the volleyball players reverse roles as well as they coach the boys as they make their best efforts to play volleyball. At this game however, there was a clear winner: the seniors! One of the victors, senior Brighton Buchanan, had a great time playing volleybuff with his friends. In fact, he said, “I enjoyed participating and cheering on my fellow seniors. Something cool was winning one of our third sets with close to perfect serves.”
Another proud volleybuff player was sophomore Tiger Russell. He was very passionate about the game. He said, “I enjoyed playing. My favorite part was defeating the freshmen.” Russell later explained how much he enjoyed beating the freshmen, and that he is looking forward to the Homecoming football game Friday.
The next Homecoming festivity will be movie night Oct. 6 in the high school. The movie will be shown in the gym at 7:00 P.M.
