Olivia Rodrigo just released her newest album “GUTS” Sept. 8, which topped the charts and became her second No. 1 album.
Olivia Rodrigo has become a very popular singer after the release of her first album, “SOUR”, which is a pop-punk album. However, she just released a new album, which is a slight change of pace, consisting of some alt-rock songs. This change of pace seems to be working for her though, considering all 12 of the tracks on her new album are in the top 40 of the Hot 100 Chart. This rise in popularity has certainly gotten to St. Louis High School students, who have strong opinions about her music.
Senior Claire Hubble is a strong advocate for the new album. She said, “I really loved the whole aesthetic of ‘GUTS’! The songs are super fun to sing to and I can appreciate a good song written by an angry woman. I love the song “pretty isn’t pretty”. It speaks the way young girls and women often feel like they’ll never be pretty enough. The standards are set impossibly high. I think it’s something most teens can relate to, no matter your gender.”
Sophomore Sophia Miller is also a big Rodrigo fan. In fact, she said, “I think it’s better than her last album. I think she experimented a lot more with the sound of the album. ‘get him back!’ or ‘teenage dream’ are my favorites.”
Sophomore Olivia Lane has a different opinion about Rodrigo and her music. She said, “She’s a young singer, so she isn’t bad. I think the hype will eventually die out and she will stop producing music. I hate ‘vampire’, it’s overrated. It’s way overhyped and people were obsessed with the little clip she teased before she even released it.”
With the album topping the charts, fans have been racing to get tickets for the upcoming “GUTS” tour. Buying tickets isn’t a “bad idea, right?” as Olivia Rodrigo would say. Rodrigo is coming to Detroit Mar. 23, 2024, and you can purchase tickets online on various websites.
