Ms. Busch-Grabmeyer has brought back an old elective this year: Literature and Film! In this class, students read a short story or novel, and then watch the corresponding film and write an essay about the two sources.
The initial excitement of reintroducing this class brought in 14 students. However, the class size dropped down a remarkable amount, leaving it with only four students total.
Even though it’s a small size, this won’t stop Literature and Film students from enjoying the class! In fact, senior Lilly Massaway said, “It’s super fun. I’d say I’m definitely enjoying it, but that’s because I really enjoy movies. I’m happy with my decision to take this class.” Massaway later explained that she was initially nervous for the class, but now she is looking forward to the rest of the year.
Another student, senior Claire Hubble, also expressed her opinions about the new elective. Hubble said, “I love this class so far! I love getting the mix of reading and then seeing the story on the screen. It’s so fun to see the story come alive.” So far, the students in this class have read the short story “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, as well as watched the film.
Sophomore Alyssa Delong is also in Literature and Film this year. In fact, she said, “It’s a very calm class and definitely a good class to end the day on.” Delong also expressed that she wasn’t originally planning on taking the class, but she is enjoying it so far.
Ms. BG, the teacher of this class, expressed her love for the class. She said, “I do enjoy being able to teach this class again. I love old movies and also enjoy reading literature and then watching their corresponding films. Students have an opportunity to watch early movies, which I believe adds to their appreciation of current movies, allowing them to see the evolution of cinema from its beginnings. Overall, I think my favorite part of this class is exposing students to movies and genres of film that they wouldn’t otherwise watch.”
