The Lady Shark volleyball team was back in action Wednesday, Sept. 13, against Valley Lutheran. Unfortunately, neither the varsity nor the junior varsity team came away with a victory.
Varsity player and St. Louis High School senior Kylie Acker shared her thoughts on the team’s performance at the game. “The game was not our best. Our biggest struggle was being in our heads. We let the score get to us. We should be more positive and we can communicate more.”
Varsity assistant coach Mrs. Godwin also had some things to say about the game. “We are still figuring out a lot of things, but the coaches can see all of their potential, and it will all come together eventually, as long as we continue to give full effort and work hard,” said Godwin.
The JV team also competed that night against Valley Lutheran. Unfortunately, they lost in two sets. Freshman Maya Massaway shared some thoughts about the season, “The game went well, even though we lost. We had some great plays and made the other team work for their points. I think our season has gone well. It’s hard to start fresh and have a new team but we are pushing through. We have had a couple of great wins so far, and I look forward to more.”
Another JV player, sophomore Scottlynn Francisco said, “The game went pretty good even though we lost. We went up against a good school with a great program and great skill.” Francisco later mentioned that the team will work hard at practice to improve and to become a “well oiled machine!”
The JV team will be back in action at home for a quad Sept. 18, and the varsity team will be playing the home Sunset Invitational Saturday, Sept. 16, as well as a home game against Standish-Sterling Sept. 20.
