The St. Louis Sharks football team faced off against Michigan Lutheran Seminary at Wheeler Field at 7 P.M., Friday, Sept. 8, ending the night with a loss of 0-60. The game began slowly, and MLS quickly gained the advantage.
After the evening, many Shark fans were upset, but the football team especially so. Coach Julian Paski shared, “After the game on Friday, many responses and emotions were shown. Frustrated, embarrassed, and overall upset with ourselves.”
Sophomore football player Tiger Russell also shared this sentiment with his coach. “It was very, very emotional,” stated Russell. “We worked very hard, but we just didn’t get it done.”
Going through a play-by-play is crucial to analyzing mistakes. In his play-by-play, Paksi states, “On the defensive side, we played really well. At the half, the defense had only given up six points. But we were still down 0-26. Offensively, though, we need to work to become a unit. The players know this too.”
“Our defense was lights out. We only let up six points,” agreed Russell.
However, a bad game won’t stop the St. Louis Sharks. Paksi shared, “One thing I have taken away from this game is that we have some dogs on the defensive side of the ball. We have high energy and we attack the defense with quickness and grit. We will need that grit to take down the passing giant of Ithaca.”
“We definitely have to work up our offense,” said Russell. “But once we get that up, Ithaca better be on the lookout for us because we won’t be playing.”
The Sharks will be taking everything they’ve learned from this unfortunate loss and using it against the Ithaca Yellowjackets at the upcoming game Friday, Sept. 15.
