At Soaring Eagle Casino, many concert goers were disappointed this past July 9, not only because they were at a Lil Jon concert, but also because the intended star Pitbull had difficulties flying to the venue due to weather related complications. After taking a pre-scheduled stop in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the rapper’s private jet was malfunctioning and could not take off. Pitbull’s team notified Soaring Eagle Casino around 8:30 P.M., only an hour and a half before the concert was supposed to start. To the credit of the Soaring Eagle team, they immediately began to try and problem solve, but the soonest Pitbull could be in Michigan would be 11:30 P.M. Both Pitbull and Soaring Eagle decided to instead postpone his performance to Aug. 19, honoring anyone who had purchased a ticket of the original concert.
Senior Josie Schrot, an SLHS student who was in attendance, said that her initial reaction to the no-show was upsetting, stating, “I was super upset that Pitbull wasn’t coming, I wanted to leave right then and there.” She added, “I thought he was supposed to be ‘Mr. Worldwide’, so you think he’d use all his money to get a backup private jet.” Schrot then continued to talk about how she feels that Pitbull is no longer worthy of being “Mr.Worldwide”, stating, “I don’t think he is because to me his concert really wasn’t that great. And for him not showing up and then coming back, you would think that it would have been better the second time around. But you’d be wrong because it was terrible.”
As Schrot mentioned, the August Pitbull concert was not the most spectacular experience in the world. Another senior, Briana Howard was on the other end of the spectrum, however, and said, “I think the second had less hype than the first, but I think they both were pretty good.” Howard then elaborated saying, “I was actually able to enjoy the concert the second time without Lil Jon.” The series of events occurring July 9, to Aug. 19 was due to poor planning from Pitbull’s team, and in doing so, they inconvenienced many of his fans and left them with a sour taste in their mouth from the experience.
