The Shark Tank recently welcomed Mrs. DeGroft, the new agricultural teacher, Aug. 24. DeGroft, the only new teacher in the science education department, graduated from the Central Michigan University with a bachelors’ degree in Science. When growing up, DeGroft said, “I knew I always wanted a career with animals – originally I wanted to be a paleontologist because I’m fascinated with dinosaur fossils and discovering new things about them!” Her passion grew about animals, and so did her time outdoors with her mother. “I love my passion with animals and outdoors through programs such as 4-H and Future Farmers of America, learning all the great opportunities!”
Outside of school, DeGroft enjoys spending time with her family, such as hanging out at the lake together, boating, and jet skiing. Some other hobbies she enjoys include camping, as well as golf.
DeGroft’s main goals for her students are to build connections with the students through FFA, agriculture classes, activities, and to rebuild the St. Louis FFA program with at least 50 new members enrolled!
Alexis Hitsman, a sophomore in Agriculture, stated, “I think she is a very cool and reliable teacher. I love how she operates her classroom regarding assignments and everything else that she does.”
Lillian Billings, another sophomore who also takes Agriculture said, “I think that she is a very helpful and reliable teacher and such a hands-on teacher, and I like that because I’m a hands-on student. She is very outgoing and makes assignments much easier.”
Both students hope that she stays here in the future and continues to teach other students about agriculture. As the first week flew by for the new teacher, more exciting things are in store for her students.
