The St. Louis girls’ and boys’ cross country teams showed great promise for the season when competing Aug. 29, at the Corunna Earlybird Invitational.
The Sharks ran very well, with both teams finishing in the top three of the competition. The boys’ team came out on top with a victory in the small school division, while the girls were close behind with a third-place finish.
“I think the first meet went pretty well,” senior Jaiden Dickman continued. “The freshmen performed a lot better than expected, and I think we will all continue to improve as the season goes on.” Teammate Natalie Lemert went on to say, “Everyone performed well considering the temperature outside. It was a good meet to rip off the bandaid.”
Some highlights on the day from the guys’ side were Ben March taking second overall with a time of 16:51.50, third place went to Landon Pestrue with a time of 17:35.76, ninth place was secured by Hayden Shattuck, 10th went to Alex Rodriguez with a time of 19:23.99, and Colin Kuhn took 13th with a time of 19:42.24.
Some remarkable performances on the girls’ side were Jaiden Dickman taking second place with a time of 21:08.56, Abby Dice taking 19th with a time of 24:13.1, Aeralyn Leonard taking 22nd place with a time of 24:35.46, and Lilly Mann taking 24th place with a time of 24:46.25.
Some other performances on the day were on the guys’ side: Parker Wing took 57th place with a time of 23:30.49, Jacob Erskin took 63rd place with a time of 24:22.49, Jackson Schulz took 66th place with a time of 24:41.88, and Gavin Yarnell took 68th place with a time of 24:52.91. Other performances from the girls’ side consisted of Halle Hoyt taking 39th place with a time of 26:41.94, Annah Hess took 45th with a time of 27:13.21, and Kenadie Henry took 48th place with a time of 27:36.31.
The Sharks will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Shepherd John Bruder Classic.
