The St. Louis varsity girls’ cross country team took third at the Spartan Invite Sept. 15, at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing.

Libby Munderloh, who took first in her division, explained how it felt running through her first finish tape, which is the ribbon at the end of the race. “When I ran through my first finish tape, I was filled with a lot of emotions and probably the biggest one was shock. I didn’t really realize what was happening at first, and it all didn’t settle in until sometime afterwards. It is something I am very proud and grateful to have gotten the chance to experience.” She adds, “I plan to go to college and continue running there as well. Running is a big part of my life, and I would have way too much free time if I didn’t do it.”

With the extremely hot weather and an open course ahead of them, the team did not let that get into their heads. The St. Louis varsity girls took third in the Spartan Invite with a total of 162 points. Munderloh took the lead with 18:58.6, Mikenna Borie followed up with a time of 20:30.8, coming in third for St. Louis was Brooklyn Filipiak with 21:45.5, Mikalia Borie was next with a time of 22:38.1, and Sela Delgado was fifth with a time of 23:37.7.

Overall, the weather was hot and humid; however, the team stayed strong and tall throughout the day, cheering other teammates on. The Sharks will be in action again Saturday at the Delta two mile.
