One of the very beneficial opportunities at St. Louis High School is dual enrollment. Dual enrollment is a great opportunity for students to get ahead in their education after high school if they would like to. Even though not all students choose to enroll in college, dual is still a great way to further one’s education. Dual enrollment can be a very beneficial thing for some, however, it can put a lot on one’s plate and it’s best to know that and be prepared for it.

According to Study Point, “If a college class will interfere with your child’s regular coursework or extracurriculars, it may not be a good idea.” As mentioned before, there can be many pros to dual enrollment, yet there are some cons to be aware of. Study Point also added, “A college course should enhance a student’s resume, but not at the expense of other resume-enhancing activities.”

Evelynn Gutierrez, a sophomore at SLHS stated, “One main reason I did not want to take dual enrollment was because I wanted to choose a different class that would take away the option of dual.” Gutierrez hadn’t done too much research on dual enrollment, but once she had, she liked the idea of taking dual more and more. Gutierrez added, “At first I thought dual enrollment wasn’t going to be a good option for me, but once I talked to more people and staff about it, I felt more confident about it. Another thing that I liked was that it is a class where you can follow up with yourself and you sort of take care of yourself.” Dual enrollment can be a good choice for students looking for a head start after high school.
