The St. Louis Sharks varsity softball team kicked off the season Friday, April 4, against Grayling at home. The girls played a double header and unfortunately lost their first game 12-6 but they then came back and won the second game by the final score of 5-4.
Freshman Olivia Brown stated, “I think the game went okay. We definitely could’ve done a lot better in both games. We as a team will definitely grow together more as the season goes on.”
Another player, sophomore Paige Luneack commented, “I think the first game went well. It was a good start to the season to get back into things. I think we did well overall. We have been 0-4 for the past two years so it was a big win for us, and I’m glad we got that win.”
Senior Brynn Saxton also stated, “The first game went okay. We just need to get comfortable with everybody working with each other. I personally think I did okay. I could do better at the plate, but I feel like I did pretty well in the field.” Saxton also said, “I feel like the team just needs to work on getting comfortable and work on getting ready to be down in situations and come back from them.”
Overall, it sounds like the girls are pretty happy with how they did for their first double header of the season. It’s clear that the girls all agree that there will be improvements throughout the season that will make them perform better. The girls are ready to play their next game Friday, April 11, away in Breckenridge.
